The Camera Never Lies.

Last week I had to have some photos taken for an article/review that the Ottawa Citizen is running on my new book. They wanted a photo of me with my BlackBerry, as well as with my other four kids.

My four kids are between the ages of 7 – 17. Finding them all in an amenable mood is as likely as finding a bottle of white in my house on a Sunday night.

First, look at this picture. Domestic bliss, right? But before you criticize me for paying more attention to my electronic child than the others, know this.

What you’re not seeing is the tears running down the little guy’s face (sitting on the counter) because his sister just punched him for getting to hold the cereal, or that piece of paper my teenage daughter is writing on which contains inflammatory and rude comments about her teenage brother sitting next to her – purely in response to the ones he put there as well. (Hopefully they won’t be readable in print.)

Sometimes the best side they see of me IS my back.
