If You Can Blog It There…

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

…you can blog it anywhere…that’s right I’m heading to New York City this week, to attend my very first BlogHer conference.  I’m pretty excited about it, for a number of reasons:

1) LOVE NYC

2) So happy to be an honourary team member of Mabels Labels, after helping to judge their BlogHer Blogging Contest, and looking forward to meeting up with the winners, and hanging out with good friends and fellow judges Erica Ehm and Scott Stratten.

3) Looking forward to meeting so many fun, funny, fabulous women whose Tweets and blogs I have enjoyed on-line and finally getting to meet in the real world, from across Canada and the US

4) Pleased to be showing off a new wardrobe from my clothing sponsor, Mark’s WorkWearHouse.  Okay, confession time – I couldn’t wait and already wore some of it on my Western Book Tour.  Good news is – it washes and travels perfectly. I think I am the only attendee not stressing about wardrobe, from what I read on Twitter.

5) I’m bringing my two teenagers with me, and leaving the little ones at home. I’ve never traveled with just them, as young adults, and I’m looking forward to exploring some shopping and restaurants that for once don’t include a PlayPlace or a dancing rodent of some kind.

6) When I”m NYC its pretty well physically impossible for me to be doing anything domestic at home. Finally, a legitimate excuse.

7) Taking my daughter, who is turning 19 while we’re there, out of a province where she could legally drink, into a state where she can not.  A good/bad parenting moment. I love these.

I’ll also be signing copies of my book, Shut Up and Eat: Tales of Chicken, Children and Chardonnay, on Friday, August 5th at 12:30-1:15 at the BlogHer bookstore, which will be located on the 2nd Floor of the Hilton (Avenue of the Americas) where the BlogHer conference is being held.

If you don’t already, follow me on Twitter at www.twitter.com/kathybuckworth where all my updates (and most likely good/bad parenting moments) will be posted.

We have Launch-Off

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

It was awesome.  Yesterday, just about all the fabulous people I’ve ever known gathered to help me launch my newest book Shut Up & Eat.  We filled the LCBO Event Kitchen to capacity (much to the concern of their event manager and security).  I’ll post more about it, but for now, I wanted to repeat the thank you speech I made, because it covers all the people I so appreciate.

And when you read it in your head, remember to laugh out loud at my own jokes, like I do:)

Cheers everyone. And hats off to Mad Mary’s Catering, Ben McNally Books and Prospect Wineries as well.

Who Gives a List?

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

I do. That’s who. I run my whole life by lists and schedules. I get to feel like I accomplish things, and more importantly, I can usually keep the four kids in rotation without forgetting someone somewhere.

Most of the time.

Anyway he’s recovered from that and the custodian gave him cookies.

This month’s Funny Mummy is all about my List Obsession, and why (I think) it works for me.

As well, I’ve discovered that I am a Busy Body. All Moms are. In a good way.

Read my latest Health & Harmony blog “UnBalanced” to find out why that is.

And – have some exciting news – Amazon.ca has started shipping “Shut Up and Eat: Tales of Chicken, Children and Chardonnay” – they’re earlier than we thought and we love it. Visit them to order right away, or go to Health & Harmony to get a great price on a three-pack of my books “Journey to the Darkside: SuperMom Goes Home”, “The BlackBerry Diaries: Adventures in Modern Motherhood” and “Shut Up and Eat”.

Details on my book launch (behind the scenes) coming soon.

Food, Glorious Food

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Okay maybe “glorious” is stretching just a tad.

I’m just a tad excited myself though, because I just delivered the manuscript for my new book, “Shut Up & Eat: Savouring the Joy of Family Bonding Time”.

And

Because I do believe you can judge a book by its cover…sometimes…

I’m so happy my new cover looks like this.

Inside the book you’ll find all my tips and stories about feeding a mostly ungrateful family, both in the house and outside.

There’s some recipes, some advice on getting through family gatherings, and solving the age old question of why kids think food tastes better when passed through a drive-thru window. ( having one installed next week.)

And yes, the wooden spoon is only for stirring.

It’ll be out April, 2010 – I’m already planning the launch party. I’m thinking there will be food.

You can pre-order your copy now – from Amazon or Chapters/Indigo
