Coming up Saturday morning, it's Episode #96 of #G Coming up Saturday morning, it's Episode #96 of #GoToGrandma, airing on @zoomer_radio at 7:30am.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Give us some.

When I named this show Go-To Grandma, I got some pushback from people who said “are you sure you want the word GRANDMA in your title?” And I said “Yes. That’s kind of the point. I’m reclaiming the word Grandma and making it positive, not something you throw out as an insult when you see someone doing something you feel shows your age. That’s called ageism, my friend.”

Respecting your elders is a long used phrase and philosophy, and while I agree that just because you age doesn’t’ mean you should automatically get respect, there is truth and wisdom to these words, because guess what…we know stuff. I have some socks that literally say “This grandma has seen some stuff.” Only the word stuff isn’t used.

A friend of the show who has also seen some…stuff…is author and not-that-kind-of-rabbi @not_that_kind_of_rabbi Ralph Benmergui. Today, Ralph and I are going to get into this subject, and discuss whether we think Canadians on the whole, do a good job of respecting their elders, and what we, as the elders, can do to help ourselves.

Then I do some research. Or I share some research, more specifically, a 2022 study titled the Perspective of Growing Older in Canada, authored by Dr Samir Sinha of the National Institute On Ageing @sinaihealthtoronto

In less than 10 years, one quarter of the Canadian population will be over the age of 65.What will that look like? Dr. Sinha will review three key measurements – Financial Security, Social Wellbeing, and Health & Independence. What’s ahead for us? How does ageism affect our physical and mental well being? Are we retirement ready? A great study that will be repeated annually.

And whether we are old or young, no matter what our gender or sexual orientation, we need to respect everyone. We have a special Take 5 With RBC interview kicking off Pride Month, with a review and historical look at the Pride Week and Pride Month events taking place across the US.

It's a great show and I hope you tune in! Up on the podcast on Tuesday.

Bright and sunny inside the @zoomer_radio studios Bright and sunny inside the @zoomer_radio studios but outside yikes. Downtown Toronto at Liberty Village smells like a campfire and looks like an orange filter has been applied. Stay indoors and mask up in and out.

Recording episode #97 of #GoToGrandma with @mairlynsmith and @authorjenniferrobson so you know it’s going to be a good one. Show airs June 17th and of course will continue to offer great financial advice from our title sponsor @rbc

As we anxiously awaited the birth of grandchild #3 As we anxiously awaited the birth of grandchild #3, I knew of a few things that would keep my three year old grandson Owen entertained while his mom was at her check ups. I have my own Chirp magazine subscription so I always have one handy to bring out for him, even at a moment’s notice. A Chirp magazine, along with some stickers, and an imagination, can pass the time, in no time.

As my grandkids get older, I’ll have to add to my @owlkidspublishing subscription line up. Chirp is right for my grandsons right now (ages 3-6), but Chickadee (ages 6-9) or Owl Magazine (ages 9-13) will be perfect as they get older. And I like receiving this kind of fun mail.

I’m working in partnership with Owl as an Owl Kids Ambassador, (along with my daughter and mom to my grandsons, @ToryHalpin), and can offer you a special subscription price of $25.95 (plus tax). Go to www.owlkids.com/kathy
